brightonfillingA restoration repairs your tooth and improves the function and appearance of your smile. We offer a number of restorations, including dental crowns and dental fillings. Which one does your tooth need? Do you need a crown or a filling? With the right restoration you can enjoy a healthy and fully functional smile.

Dental Filling

If you have a cavity then you will most likely have it treated with a dental filling. In the past amalgam, or metal, was the only option for a restoration. Now, we can use composite resin to provide white fillings. The restoration will blend with the surrounding tooth structure.

The procedure begins with the doctor removing decay and cleaning the tooth. Next, the shaded composite material will be applied to the tooth. The doctor will use a special light to cure the material. Afterward, the tooth will be polished for a more lifelike appearance. The entire procedure can be completed in a single visit.

The composite material can also be used to repair minor chips or other surface issues in dental bonding procedures.

Dental Crown

We recommend dental crowns for more severe breaks or fractures. We can also use them to address problems with a tooth’s shape, anchor a dental bridge in place, or complete a dental implant. The crown can be made from a variety of materials but we primarily use ceramic due to the material’s strength and natural looking appearance. The tooth will have a small amount of structure removed and an impression will be taken. Afterward, a dental lab will create the restoration. When you return to the office we will check the fit and place the new crown with a powerful bonding agent.

Which Do You Need?

We will need to examine your tooth to see which restoration provides the best treatment. Minor decay will benefit from a filling and damaged or severe dental caries will benefit from a crown.
